Why wait forever for love at first sight when you can get the whole bang shoot and find true love in a few episodes of the reality television show Married at First Sight. Originating in Denmark, the series now has a US and Australian version and is adding the South African edition to local small screens in February next year.Producer for the South African show Rebecca Fuller-Campbell said that close to 300 people responded."We are now short-listing. We are down to about 15 women and 10 men. We're working our way down to six singles."The type of people who applied to be a part of the show were "actually really ordinary people".Most came from Gauteng, Pretoria in particular."It was all different types of people from different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds."Fuller-Campbell said people were finding it increasingly difficult to meet one another. They had busy lives and spent a lot of time on their phones. That's how the show came about.Relationship expert Paula Quinsee, who is a part of the panel involved in the process, said candidates varied in age from early 20s to mid-30s, with women generally older.Potential candidates go through a rigorous screening process which includes health and psychological tests, as well as a look through their financials to get an understanding of where each person is.Other experts in the show are counselling psychologist Neo Tshireletso Pule, sex health specialist Shingai Mutambirwa, anthropological adviser Anna Trapido and financial coach Gary Kayle.Quinsee said she expected some controversy from more traditional people. But, she said, the idea was not entirely out of the ordinary."Arranged marriages have been around for centuries. What's different here is there is a more scientific approach through the various qualified experts and the screening process."Fuller-Campbell said, at the end of the day, it was all about true love and the journey finding it.US website Bustle claimed that, of the six people who participated in Season 3, two had married successfully .Married at First Sight South Africa premiers on Lifetime, DStv channel 131, on February 3 at 8pm..
