An angry mob waylaid a truck carrying timber and set it alight during a protest to remove a local councillor on the P110‚ between Doesburg and Maphumulo‚ north of Durban‚ on Tuesday.

An angry mob waylaid a truck carrying timber and set it alight during a protest to remove a local councillor on the P110‚ between Doesburg and Maphumulo‚ north of Durban‚ on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said that the mob of nearly 100 people erected the burning barricade at 8am.

“People blocked the road with burning tyres and stones‚ demanding that the councillor be removed from the area‚” he said.

“They held up a truck and set the truck alight. A case of malicious damage to property and public violence will be opened at KwaDukuza police station for investigation‚” Zwane added.

IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Dylan Meyrick‚ who was on the scene‚ said that no one was injured in the incident.
