A Cape Town bridal pair was spotted making a pit stop to buy snacks at a supermarket at the weekend in between the wedding and the reception, prompting one wit to remark that this brought new meaning to the phrase "walking down the aisle".

Chris Quinn shared a photograph of the beaming bride in her wedding gown at a Rondebosch shopping aisle, commenting: "She was travelling from the photo session to the reception and got so hungry. So bought some Simba crisps and bottled water. My Cape Town today. Her husband at the back in silver/grey suit."

On social media, many questioned why their attendants - the matron of honour, bridesmaids or groomsmen - had not helped to organise snacks for the couple.

Others had very practical advice for newlyweds to follow, such as Eric @TK75290637 who commented: "Lovely. I like the humbleness. However, though truth be told on your big day... it's best to get up early, stretch/light jog, have a good healthy solid breakfast and juice, brush those teeth with whitening fluoride toothpaste and get your team ready and go straight to your venue!"
