Using public toilets in Ahmedabad will earn you one rupee according to reports.

In 2013 Dipou Peters of South Africa likened e-tolling to paying to use the toilet.

"Those who use a facility, you pay R1 or R2. Those toilets need to be maintained. Would you pay (to use a) dirty toilet?" she asked.

"Responsible citizens will pay for the open and smooth roads."

Well, that argument may end up taking a knock because according to the Times of India - in Ahmedabad the The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation are planning to pay people to use their toilets.

The corporation is placing 67 toilets in "Nuisance" spots around the city in a bid to get people to use them.

Why? Because they are tired of people defecating in public.

"We are going to implement this project because people near the 67 pay and use toilets are found defecating in the open. Some even defecate on footpaths and pose a major public health risk. Our move will encourage people to use public toilets and AMC officials will also explain their family to do the same," Standing committee chairman Pravin Patel said.

The scheme will apparently be paid for using advertising.

According to the report, India isn't the first place to try this -  Darechowk in Katmandu tried something similar and it worked.

Considering how many men allow their exhibitionist streaks out when they need to pee in South Africa, letting it all hang out by the roadside, when are we going to see a similar plan here?
