KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu said on Tuesday morning that he was still confident that the South African Communist Party (SACP) provincial secretary would take up his post as an MEC. Themba Mthembu was firmly in the spotlight on Monday evening after it was announced that his comrades‚ led by the Young Communists League‚ had ordered him to decline the deployment.Mthembu was absent at the premier's office in Durban on Tuesday morning when four other new MECs were sworn in by Deputy Judge President Isaac Madondo. "One other member is not here with us at the moment and time does not allow me to delay any further‚" said Mchunu."I want to confirm we were supposed to have five members being sworn in. But I have been informed formally that the matter of his swearing-in be delayed. I'm convinced though that in the meantime there's no change from the announcement I made yesterday‚" said Mchunu.Mthembu‚ however‚ arrived much later after the premier had already left. The SACP has gone to ground but is expected to hold a press briefing later. The SACP was locked behind closed doors on Monday night discussing if Mthembu should accept the position of MEC for agriculture and rural development in the KZN government. - TMG Digital/Durban Bureau..
