ANC head of economic transformation Enoch Godongwana has said that he believes the end goal for the Hawks’ investigation into Pravin Gordhan‚ is to weaken the Finance Minister’s fight against corruption.

In an interview with eNCA Godongwana said: “Pravin has been trying to investigate what is happening in Eskom‚ which to everybody smells.

  • Gordhan has fired political equivalent of bazooka at Molefe‚ says DAThe Democratic Alliance says it welcomes the fact that Minister of Finance Pravin Gordan has taken the fight to Eskom CEO Brian Molefe‚ accusing him of failing to cooperate and undermining a review of coal contracts concluded between Eskom and Tegeta Exploration & Resources that is being conducted by National Treasury.

“Pravin had been trying to deal with what’s happening in SAA‚ which in everybody’s eyes is mad.

  •

“Pravin is fighting a major battle with people in Denel who have formed a company in Hong Kong together with the Guptas. That smells.”

  •

Godongwana said that he shares the view that the charges against Gordhan are being cooked in order to distract away from these issues‚ and find a minister who will be pliant and accept them.

He further spoke about his belief that Gordhan’s powers as finance minister have been weakened‚ due to the fact that he is no longer in charge of the South African Revenue Service.
