Tsepo Masilela earned a re-call in the Bafana Bafana squad on Thursday after head coach Shakes Mashaba named the towering Kaizer Chiefs left-back in his team to face Mauritania in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Nouakchott on September 5.

Masilela, who has had his injury problems in the past, has been overlooked by Mashaba in past despite consistent performances at his team Chiefs.

Masilela, however, was Mashaba’s first choice replacement for the injured Patrick Phungwayo for the Afcon finals in January but the Amakhosi defender had to turn down the call-up down owing to a heel injury.

Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba has named his squad to face Mauritania in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Nouakchott on September 5.

Notable absentees in this squad include Kamohelo Mokotjo and the in-from Orlando Pirates trio of Oupa Manyisa, Kermit Erasmus and the in-form Thabo Rakhale.

Bafana, who go into camp on August 30, started their campaign for a finals berth with a goalless home draw against Gambia on June 13. Group M favourites Cameroon awaits Mashaba’s team in March.
