Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s adviser, Keith Khoza, and Mashatile’s ex-girlfriend Gugu Nkosi are embroiled in a legal tussle after Khoza turned to the courts to obtain a protection order against Nkosi.

On Monday, the two appeared briefly at the Randburg magistrate’s court for a hearing to make permanent an interim protection order Khoza was granted against Nkosi in late March.

Nkosi is opposing the interim order.

The case was heard in a closed court, with no media allowed.

TimesLIVE has seen a court document which shows the case was postponed to August 29, to allow parties to file outstanding documents.

Dressed in a green and black suit, Nkosi was escorted by two bodyguards, who never left her side. She was also accompanied by her brother and sister.

The Sunday Times previously reported Khoza obtained an interim order prohibiting Nkosi and Mashatile’s other lover, Norma Mbatha, from sending messages inciting violence against either of the men.

In a 53-minute audio recording, Nkosi and Mbatha allegedly discuss how they want to bring Mashatile down for betraying them.

In his application, Khoza said he received text messages from Nkosi and Mbatha, which were “intended to communicate to me that if I do not make payment to her, she will bring harm to Mashatile [and] harm my good name and reputation.

“Ms Mbatha is working with Ms Nkosi in a scheme aimed at extorting money, harassing and intimidating Mr Mashatile and me.”

The interim order stated that Nkosi and Mbatha were prohibited from transmitting messages which incite violence against Khoza “and/or related people” or publishing anything about Khoza and/or related people on social media or other forums.

Khoza also opened a criminal complaint on Mashatile’s behalf against Nkosi, alleging she wanted to kill him. The case was opened shortly after Mashatile’s traditional wedding to Humile Mjongile in March.
