WE ARE so used to being armchair critics.

WE ARE so used to being armchair critics.

Just because Helen Suzman was not an ANC member she cannot be a heroine in the eyes of the fools who blindly follow the ANC.

I say well done to the Suzman family for turning down the "offer" from the government of a state funeral; it would have been a farce and an insult to Mrs Suzman.

The ANC would do anything to get sand in the eyes of its new opposition, Cope.

It would even grovel at the feet of its enemies to make ground.

Slowly it is realising that, as Jacob Zuma said to Mosiuoa Lekota: "It can be cold out there".

The ANC needs its own blankets to hide under because, as it is finding out, the winds of change can indeed be chilly.

Democracy can be cruel if you don't adhere to its principles - ask Madiba and Suzman.

They will tell you that it takes a lot of courage. - Zakhele Lucas, by e-mail
