I’d like to tell Leonardo Drew that he reminds me of a dassie but stop myself when I realise that the remark would be lost on him. I always forget what the proper English name is for the small mammals we often find basking in the sun on rocky outcrops in our corner of the world. It’s the way he’s sought out the sun’s rays on this winter morning in Joburg — and the way he relishes the warmth — that made the thought pop into my head...
