In an interview with Sowetan, Maurice explained that his body building journey started in December last year as he wanted to try somethign "completely different and new."

This led to Maurice winning the fitness physique division of the South African leg of Muscle Mulisha Grand Prix body building competition, where he won a spot to compete in Barcelona.

The Arnold Classic Europe Ace is hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger and IFBB president Rafael Santonja.

"I've always been into health and fitness, but I needed to see proper results in my muscle development. So I took on this challenge to compete. I put myself on the stage for the experience, nothing serious and I won my division and part of the prize was to compete in Barcelona on September 23," he told the publication.

Maurice added that body building has helped him change his lifestyle as he's moved away from the party scene - these days he spends his time at work, gym and home, which he says is "good for my soul."

"I'm going to Barcelona for the experience. Whatever the results I will walk away a winner knowing that I put myself on the international stage."
