There were late night breaking news notifications that "he's free" and the internet fell to pieces when news broke that his bail had been granted. But no, it wasn't one of the world's biggest political prisoners being released, but rather Meek Mill.

Remember him? The guy that everyone was clowning on when Drake came through with the drag-fest in 2015. The guy that everyone was poking fun at when Nicki told him they would be "better as friends".

He was jailed over five months ago for violating his parole conditions by riding a motorbike, which he said was for a music video. Suddenly the whole world was chanting #FreeMeekMill as they tried to highlight what they called an unjust punishment.

Fast forward to this week and the decision was overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Tuesday and he was released on "unsecured bail."

Meek walked out to celebrations like he had just won the Soweto Derby all by himself.

His release wasn't lost on Twitter and suddenly he found himself compared to Nelson Mandela. You know, Mandela who spent 27 years in jail. The  Mandela who was jailed for trying to bring equality to all races in South Africa. The same Mandela who had activists around the world rallying for his release and push for economic boycotts against the apartheid government.

We were like:

Tata was released and set out to negotiate a peaceful transition to a democratic South Africa. Meek was picked up in a helicopter and taken to ring a bell at a basketball game.

Like, how do we even compare?
