Moopi Mothibeli made his television debut in 2014 on Generations and since then there's no denying the acting industry has evolved.
To stay on top of things, he has developed a way that would make him a cut above the rest and to top that his natural abilities as an actor have already given him the edge.
He shared with TshisaLIVE the things he does to ensure he keeps up with the evolution of the industry.
“It’s the actor's job to keep up with the trends and any changes within the industry. Workshops, training seminars and even auditions are a way of staying afloat and on top of one’s game. Acting is a muscle that needs to be trained continuously. And so I do my part in that regard to harness my craft. And also watching the output of other artists can be extremely helpful — be it going to plays, watching local films and series. But above all, I think being a keen observer of life around you will always be the greatest teacher. Actors are great listeners and observers.
He's not only an actor, but Moopi has managed to wear the director's cap in plays and he said he embraces all mediums where he is able to showcase his evolution.
“I love storytelling in its entirety — be it in front of the camera or behind the scenes as a creative. I’ll always look to expand my artistry where possible. I started out on the stage — directing and performing in plays. Now I’m on the small screen, learning and growing as best as I can. Wherever there’s an opportunity to learn and grow, I’ll always grab it. The evolution of my artistry isn’t bound to one particular medium — it serves the whole: storytelling,” he said.
On what he would want to be remembered for in the industry, he said he would rather concern himself with being the best version of himself.
“What people think of me is something I unfortunately have no control over. So I rarely dwell on such thoughts. However, what I do think about a lot is being the best version of myself each day. At least I aspire to be. I also believe a word or act of kindness goes a long a way ... So I try to do my part in spreading a little kindness wherever I go. And, of course, make the world a better place for those coming after us. Sounds idealistic as hell, but then again a small smile can make someone’s day. So why not?”
