The 5am gang were up before the early bird sang to get back to their normal routine of watching Showmax's telenovela The Wife.

The first three episodes of the third and final season were made available from Thursday and tweeps have already dug in and had loads to say about Mqhele.

Former Uzalo star Wiseman Mncube replaced Bonko Khoza as Mqhele, and he was given a thumbs-up by some, while others have resorted to giving themselves a chance to warm up to him.

“I just want Wiseman to know he’s doing great. Yes, Bonko is Bonko, but Wiseman is Wiseman. A slightly different take on a character we know. Otherwise man the execution of Mqhele’s angry, phuma silwe personality are there. Kanti nifunani? Bonko akabuyi bo love,” tweeted one.

One tweep thanked Bonko for his contribution to the show.

“Oh Wiseman! You know in the Zulu brothers that I made in my head while I was reading, he was Nqoba, he has always fitted in The Wife so I'm so thrilled that he has joined the crew. To @BonkoKhoza thank you brother for sharing your talent with us.”

In a statement,  Wiseman said he was enjoying acting opposite “national wife” Mbalenhle as Hlomu.

“I won’t lie; it’s been nice,” he said.

“It’s been an interesting journey between the two of us because we’ve known each other on Instagram and we would just compliment and show appreciation of each other’s work. We’ve always said that one day we will work together, God willing. So when it happened, it became a full-circle moment. That in itself made it easy because we both wanted to work together.”

When he was announced as the replacement for Bonko Khoza, Wiseman said he looked at the transition as just taking over from where Bonko left off.

“I’m not here to replace Bonko but to start my own journey as Mqhele and take things from where he left off and run with it in my own way.” he said.
