The eThekwini Community Church (ECC) was filled with emotion on Thursday as artists, friends and family took to the stage to celebrate Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo's life.

The award-winning musician died last week after suffering a mild stroke.

BABES AND MAMPINTSHA

His wife Babes Wodumo's father took to the podium and said Mampintsha and Babes were meant to be together.

"Babes, in this journey of music, was put into it by Mampintsha. He trained and taught her because Babes used to be a model here in eThekwini. Before I know it there goes Babes into music with Mampintsha. I will never forget him because he groomed my child to be the successful star that she is today. He succeeded in doing that.

"There are very few people who, when they love their women, groom them ... For that reason he has left her with bread. She is able to sustain herself. Mandla built Babes and for that I'm thankful."

'EVEN NOW MY HEART IS STILL BROKEN'

DJ Tira said he was still in disbelief.

"I didn't think in my life I would see his picture like this. Even now my heart is still broken but the one thing that would make us go forward is the love you give us.

"I'm glad this house (church) is filled like this because it means the love you have for Mampintsha, Big Nuz, Afrotainment and West Ink is big. There is still a lot of work to be done going forward. Our sister Babes Wodumo must go back to her place at the top.

"Mampintsha was very talented and creative. Everything that was his, you could not compare it to anyone. How many groups in South Africa or across the world vanished for 10 years and when they came back they went to the top? Big Nuz was quiet and came back, and now they have what I think is the biggest song in the country and its because of Mampintsha and Danger's creativity.

"The person Mampintsha was this year was the same man I met in 2016 when we decided to form the group."

'HIS LEGACY WILL LIVE ON'

DJ Tira he was glad that they were able to reunite.

Big Nuz's other member, Mzi Tshomela, who goes by the name Danger, said he would keep the group alive.

"We thank you for the support you gave us from day one. Thank you, Tira and Afrotainment, and all the artists we worked with because the energy was there.

"When we came back from Joburg you supported us and the energy was there. It's sad that the soldiers are gone, they left one by one. His legacy will always live on because Big Nuz belongs to the community".
