A woman was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into the country at the weekend.

The South African, 47, apparently stashed crystal meth, with an estimated street value of R10 million, into her luggage, according to the police’s Facebook page.

She had arrived at the airport from Accra, Ghana, on Sunday morning when she was flagged by customs officials.

The police have made a number of drug-related busts at the airport since the start of the year.

In separate incidents, three foreigners were arrested with the illegal stimulant Khat as they were about to board for Zurich.

“Drug peddlers are again warned that the consequences of dealing in drugs are devastating and security officials will not allow their attempts to smuggle drugs in or out of South Africa to continue unabated,” the police’s post stated.

The woman faced at least one charge of dealing in drugs.

She was expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
