The final two races of the 2016 Audi Sport TT Cup are set to take place this weekend at the Hockenheimring in Germany as a supporting programme of the DTM race calendar. This final meeting brings to an end a seven-round championship which has seen the rise of many young international talents, including South Africa’s very own, Sheldon van der Linde.
The 17-year-old South African started his campaign at Hockenheim in May in a commanding position, having claimed a double victory in the season’s first two races. He continued to perform well in the next rounds and claimed victories in rounds two and four at Nűrburgring and Zandvoort in Holland. Van der Linde will go into Hockenheim this weekend in third position in the championship standings with a possibility of clinching the overall title should he claim the maximum amount of points available. He will also look to win the rookie title following this weekend’s races, as this is his first year competing in the Audi Sport TT Cup. Sheldon currently leads the rookie classification by one point from fourth placed Nicklas Nielsen from Denmark.
Additionally, South Africa will have another representative on the race track at Hockenheim this weekend with Jesse Adams (above), an experienced and respected motoring journalist, competing in the guest classification of the race. AUDI AG made available a limited number of media spots in this year’s championship, and following a successful test at the Audi Sport facilities in Neuberg in March, Adams was one of ten media entrants chosen out of 40 international journalists to participate in a race weekend.
“This is a once in a lifetime experience for me. Being selected by Audi to race at Hockenheim is a massive privilege and I’m looking forward to testing my skills against a much younger field,” said Adams. “I was lucky to get a private test session at Nűrburgring earlier this week so I’m feeling much more comfortable in the car. My lap times were competitive but now I have to contend, fender to fender, with a grid of budding professionals who won’t spare an inch of the famous 4.5km circuit”, concluded Adams.
The Audi Sport TT Cup races will take place on Saturday, 15 October at 16h10 and on Sunday, 16 October at 09h10. Both races will be broadcast via live streaming at – Audi Sport
