A 36-year-old man was electrocuted while trying to fix a ceiling fan in Hillcrest, west of Durban, on Sunday.

The police's Durban Search and Rescue (SAR), along with Metro search and rescue, were deployed to a home in the Waterfall area to retrieve the man's body, which had been stuck in the ceiling.

The man was an electrician's assistant.

It is understood that the body was secured in a rescue stokes basket and lowered down through the ceiling trapdoor before being handed over to Hillcrest police.

An inquest docket has been opened.
