South African Football Association confirmed yesterday that a letter had been sent to the Confederation of African Football, seeking security assurances for Bafana Bafana's return match in the Central African Republic.

Bafana side beat CAR 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Cape Town on Saturday.

Just hours later, 13 South African troops had been killed as rebels took control of the country's capital city, Bangui. Bafana are expected to travel to the city for their return leg on June 7.

"The letter has been sent to CAF. I'd prefer to play in a country where conditions are suitable and the facilities are good," said Safa president Kirsten Nematandani.

"We want to make sure wherever we play our players are safe in terms of security and the conditions are good."

Bafana are second - with five points - in Group A, two points adrift of log leaders Ethiopia.
