Suits, back for a third season, is the hugely popular show following the lives of high- powered attorneys at Pearson, a top New York law firm.

It's a show everybody seems to love, whether or not this fast-paced genre is their cup of tea.

For those who don't know, here's a little background on the USA Network series. The central character is Mike Ross (Patrick J Adams), a law school dropout with a photographic memory who fakes his way into a job at Pearson. He is taken under the wing of Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), a suave but ruthless man who wears the finest suits and sleeps with gorgeous women (forgetting their names the next morning).

In the first two seasons, we followed the trials at Pearson, and peek into the personal lives of its employees (and bosses).

In the season three premiere, Harvey plots against his boss, Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres), after she refuses to make him a named partner at the firm. Mike tries to mend his now-strained relationship with Harvey.

While I find Suits enjoyable, I think it is overrated. The script is sharp (one-liners galore) and the storylines are interesting, but this is hardly The Practice or The Good Wife. The characters aren't well enough developed for the viewer to truly care about them.

On the plus side, the actors are incredibly good looking (Macht is drool-worthy), and they dress for a Tom Ford or Prada runway.

In the end, Suits feels like the guy who goes out of his way to show us how smart and sharp he is but is all hype and no substance.

  • Season three of Suits premieres on M-Net (DStv 101) tomorrow at 7.30pm.
