Jazz festival attendees will be treated to old favourites and an exciting new collaboration when the annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival kicks off in the city tonight.
The festival, now in its 15th year, is expecting more than 35000 music lovers to descend on the Cape Town International Convention Centre for two days.
UK music veterans Shakatak, who played the free concert on Wednesday night in the pouring rain, said the Cape Town audience was one of their favourites in the world.
"On Wednesday night it was [pouring] with rain and the people were singing along," keyboard player Bill Sharpe said.
"We feed off your energy" said bassist George Anderson.
Jimmy Dludlu said he, Saudiq Khan, Alivin Dyers and Richard Caesar would push the envelope with guitar versions of songs by legendary South African artists like Brenda Fassie.
"We're going to blow your mind. We have something really beautiful to share with you," he said.
Local pop artist Jimmy Nevis will make his festival debut.
