Bob Hewitt told a young tennis student that "rape is enjoyable in all cases" and she had to "lie down and enjoy it", the Johannesburg High Court heard yesterday.

This was the testimony of the third alleged victim of Hewitt, 75. The former tennis star has pleaded not guilty.

The 37-year-old woman, who cannot be named, was coached by Hewitt for three years. The woman, who was 14 when she first met him, said she cut her lesson short after his alleged rape comment and went home.

When she arrived, Hewitt had already phoned her mother to tell her that her daughter did not have the mental toughness for tennis, she said.

She said Hewitt would rest his arm on her breasts when he stood behind her to demonstrate tennis shots and, with his hand around her waist, pull her closer to him. She said when she resisted and tried to pull away, he would become irritated with her.

He also asked her about her menstrual cycles, insisted that she wear skirts and not shorts to practise and rubbed himself up and down her body from behind, she said.

She decided to come out with her story at a Sun City tennis tournament by confiding in her doubles partner, who was also coached by Hewitt, and claimed she had had similar experiences with him.

Hewitt dismissed the woman's claims as "absurd" and "laughable" in his plea explanation, read out in court on Monday.
