Love rats turn up their noses at quickies

Two-timing spouses prefer long-term affairs to quickies, according a survey of more than 35000 users of AshleyMadison.com - a global dating website for people seeking an extra-marital affair. The poll found that 64.4% of men and 68.9% of women would rather cheat for three to six months.Only a small percentage of married people preferred "hit it and quit it" flings which fizzle out after a few days.Noel Biderman, the site's founder and CEO, said: "It is a common misconception that people who have affairs are looking for anonymous one-night stands."Most men and women on the site are looking for a partner who can fulfil what they're missing at home, and a lasting connection with a fellow adulterer."Sexologist Dr Marlene Wasserman, known as Dr Eve, said her research confirmed the trend towards long term affairs."Many affairs start with no strings attached. But with the technological revolution people keep meeting. Intimacy, connection and attachment keeps forming between people," she said.It was the adventure, connection and unexpectedness that reeled people in, she said. But men and women differ in some ways. While women tend to chat to a potential partner for seven to 10 days before taking the next step, men take about four to seven days before meeting.Ironically, cheaters are faithful to their paramour, as the poll found that spouses engage in "extra marital monogamy". Dr Eve added that this had become the "new normal"...
