The world's biggest dog meat festival in China is under pressure to shut down following complaints from Chinese and international animal welfare organisations. The organisers of Yulin Dog and Cat Meat festival, at which an estimated 10000 dogs are slaughtered each year, are the target of a petition on the website change.org that has so far received more than 200000 signatures. The petition included a YouTube video that has been viewed more than 130000 times - but is not accessible in China, where YouTube is blocked.A quarter of a million tweets have been posted using the hashtag #StopYulin2015.Each year thousands of dogs are killed at the annual festival -- some are electrocuted, burned and skinned while alive and conscious.
