Feathers will be ruffled

Celebrities have two months in which to prepare themselves for brutal banter served with a kiss. If this year's Feather Awards ceremony is anything like the nominees announcement event, personalities such as Maps Maponyane and Bonang Matheba should prepare for the worst. The awards recognise personalities who have inspired the gay community, and are also a celebration of the LBGTI community. The nominee announcements set the tone perfectly for the awards.Relative industry newcomer, actress Jessica Nkosi, was nominated in the Best Styled Female and Hot Chick of the Year categories, but it was remarks about Matheba that left many gasping. The Top Billing presenter and Metro FM DJ was nominated in the Drama Queen of the Year category, alongside Eskom, for "giving new meaning to candle-lit dinner".In a voice-over, Matheba was described as "South Africa's premium side-chick [mistress]". This stems from allegations that she's responsible for breaking up rapper AKA and DJ Zinhle.Model and actor Maps Maponyane was also a casualty of sarcasm. He was nominated in the Socialite of the Year category together with The Vintage Crew and MTV VJ and rapper Nomuzi Mabena. They were labelled as celebs who attended events "for the freebies", but it was Maponyane who was singled out as "the prodigal son of events".Mabena told The Times that perhaps it was her yolo [you only live once] approach to life that led to her getting the nod."When I started in the industry I used to think that you couldn't say 'no' to events, but then I realised you can. I don't think I'm at every event, but I guess this means that every time I am somewhere I make such an impact that everyone remembers," Mabena said...
