KP worth his weight in runs for Dolphins

If ever the value of an overseas professional could be judged by the weight of his match-winning performances, it was Kevin Pietersen's contribution on Wednesday night, when the Dolphins beat the Highveld Lions by one run, after Andile Phehlukwayo defended 13 with his last over. On any other day a score of 174-6 in a T20 would consist of a smash-and-grab half-century and a smattering of cameos. With the Dolphins stifled by the wily spin of Eddie Leie and Aaron Phangiso, Pietersen's unbeaten 115 off 66 balls made up 67% of the Dolphins' total. Only two other batsmen got to double figures. While the Highveld Lions could not find the fifth and sixth gears to power themselves over the line, the Dolphins would have been beached without Pietersen's second T20 hundred.Pietersen seems to have moved on from his knock, with the dangerous Knights looming today at De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley."This is a special moment because I'm doing it for the Dolphins and I'm back at Kingsmead, where it all started," said Pietersen. "I'll think about it and feel happier. It's nice to have something associated with the Dolphins reflected in my career."Pietersen has just three games left and captain Morne van Wyk hopes his hot streak will last. With their Highveld opponents already vanquished, the Dolphins are halfway there. But Van Wyk is not getting ahead of himself. The tournament is still far from over and Pietersen's influence needs to be maximised...
