'Cellphones cooking men's sperm'
Men who keep their cellphones in their pockets could be "cooking their sperm", a study shows. It says having a cellphone close to the testicles can lower sperm levels so much that conceiving could be difficult.A story on The Telegraph website advises men to "stop being addicted to cellphones"."Put the cellphone in your chest pocket instead of close to your testes. It will reduce the risk of your sperm count dropping or dropping as much."The study found the sperm levels of men who kept their phones in their pockets were seriously affected in 47% of cases compared with just 11% in the general population.Martha Dirnfeld, of Technion University in Haifa, was quoted as saying : "We found the quality and number of active swimming sperm was reduced. We think this is caused by a heating of the sperm from the phone and by electromagnetic activity."A team monitored more than 100 men attending a fertility clinic for a year. The website said many men spoke on the phone while it was charging and kept it only a few centimetres from their beds. The quality of sperm among men in Western countries is constantly decreasing and is considered crucial in 40% of the cases in which couples have difficulty conceiving, the website said.Gedis Grudzinskas, a fertility consultant at St George's Hospital, London, said: "Try to stop cellphone addiction. And do you need to keep the phone on the bedside table? Some men keep their cellphones in their pyjamas in bed. Is that necessary?"..
