The case of a Durban man who allegedly stole an African Grey parrot has been postponed to April 20 for further investigation.

The accused, Debishand Prakash, has been out on R1 000 bail. He appeared at the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Monday.

CCTV footage circulated on social media after the theft showed three people – a man, a young boy and a woman –walking into Julie’s Pet Shop at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping Mall and allegedly stealing the bird.

The woman appeared to distract the shop assistant.

The parrot has since been returned to the shop unharmed. His owner, Hawa Deedat, said the bird was valued at around R4 500.
