The celebrity at the centre of an extramarital threesome scandal has filed an application to Britain's highest appeal court in a last-ditch attempt to keep the names of those involved secret.The Supreme Court confirmed it had received an application from the celebrity, who was rebuffed in the Court of Appeal on Monday.Supreme Court justices will hold a hearing tomorrow to decide whether to grant, or refuse, permission to appeal.The applicant - known only as "PJS" - is said to be facing a bill of up to £1-million (R20.6-million) after being told that he was liable for both sides' costs in a court battle with the Sun on Sunday newspaper stretching back to January.Critics have said the process has descended into a farce and brought the law into disrepute. Others have wondered if this signals the death of the celebrity privacy injunction.On Monday, the Draconian order banning reporting of the scandal in England and Wales was lifted by a panel of three judges.Desmond Browne, QC, for the claimant, said the judgment against his client "may be treated as the death of the celebrity privacy injunction".The panel of judges agreed that relatives, friends and business contacts of those involved already "know perfectly well" about the claims.Lord Justice Jackson wrote: "It is in my view inappropriate (some may use a stronger term) for the court to ban people from saying that which is common knowledge." ..
