Moonyeenn cracks nod

Queen of South African casting Moonyeenn Lee is among the record-breaking 683 film professionals invited to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Following the backlash against the whitewashing of this year's Oscars, the academy was forced to include a breakdown by race and gender of this year's new members. The list is made up of 48% women and 41% people of colour. The list includes people from 59 countries but Lee is the only South African to be invited.Ewan McGregor's directorial debut, the film adaptation of Philip Roth's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel American Pastoral, is finally on its way to release. The trailer for the film, starring McGregor, Jennifer Connelly and Dakota Fanning debuted online this week.The Indie Karoo film festival is under way until Sunday in Prince Albert.
