24 schoolchildren in hospital after minibus crash

Two dozen schoolchildren were injured‚ one seriously‚ in a minibus crash near Durban on Tuesday morning.

All the children were take to hospital.

The minibus was traveling from Sundumbile to Mandeni on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast when the driver lost control.

"It rear-ended an empty taxi‚ which in turn hit another vehicle. IPSS Medical Rescue paramedic Paul Herbst said 24 children were taken to hospital.

Injuries ranged from minor to serious.

Herbst said a child trapped in the front of the minibus carrying the children had to be carefully removed from the vehicle. She had been seriously hurt.
