A train has derailed between Machadodorp and Carolina in Mpumalanga after tracks were stolen on Friday night.

According to a post on the Police pics and clips Facebook page‚ the train derailed about 12km before Machadodorp.

“Tracks were stolen last night. Train has derailed. This is due to high levels of ferrous and non ferrous metal thefts‚” the post read.

It said theft of cables and tracks was a huge problem in South Africa.

There was no mention of any casualties.
