The murder trial of a Limpopo man accused of killing his ex-lover's nine-year-old son is expected to resume at the Limpopo High Court in Polokwane on Wednesday.

Jimmy Makhubela stands accused of killing Katlego Lesenya from Mozombane Village outside Mokopane and dumping his body near a local river last year.

Katlego had gone missing for days before his body was eventually discovered. Makhubela was initially arrested in connection with Katlego's disappearance but was later charged with murder. This was after he apparently pointed out the place where he had dumped Katlego's body to the police.

Katlego's mother‚ Nancy Lesenya‚ was a police officer employed by the South African Police Service’s family violence‚ child protection and sexual unit at the time he was killed. However‚ Lesenya previously told Sowetan that she was moved to a different unit because she found herself unable to continue working with children after losing her son.

Makhubela remains in custody after having been denied bail.
