Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga had to refute reports that his house was on fire on Thursday evening. The mayor took to social media to thank people for their concern but that he was not the victim of the fire.

“I wld like to confirm media reports that there was a fire at the house next door to mine‚ it seems like the fire was a result of a gas bottle exploding. Luckily no 1 was hurt & I would like to thank every1 for their concern ans support during this unfortunate event. @CityTshwane”

The mayor also tweeted an image of the house in flames.

His twitter followers offered him and his neighbourhood a word of support following the tragic event.

Liz Botes tweeted: “So glad you are all okay.”

Rachelle Tob tweeted: “Good to hear that you are safe.”

John Barendrecht tweeted: “We are grateful for you and your family's safety.”
