Rescue Care paramedics are treating a 61-year-old man who was shot during a shooting in peak-hour morning traffic in Pinetown on Friday morning.

Rescue Care spokesman Garrith Jamieson said: “Paramedics are currently on the scene of a road rage incident in the Pinetown area, on Otto Volek Road, near the M19.”

He said an elderly man had sustained critical gunshot wounds during an alleged altercation with a taxi driver.

He said the man was shot at close range, adding that advanced life-support paramedics were working to stabilise him before he was transported to hospital.

The taxi driver had ran off after the shooting, said Jamieson.

Police hadn’t responded at the time of publishing.
