Cheryl Modise from Pretoria was over the moon in June after buying her dream car, a brand-new Range Rover Evoque.

But within a month of purchase, the R800,000 car would not start, and it was found abandoned in Soweto – while she was under the impression it was still at the dealership.

What ensued was an unsuccessful attempt to cancel the sale of the vehicle, and even the Motor Industry Ombudsman of SA (Miosa) has now retracted its original ruling in favour of the dealership.

Modise bought the car in June and paid a deposit of R120,000.
