The ruling party said it has “noted and respects” the unanimous judgment delivered by the Constitutional Court on Thursday‚ but will “study it in detail and comment further in due course”.
The court found that President Jacob Zuma and Parliament had failed to uphold their constitutional obligations by failing to comply with the remedial action set out in the public protector’s report on his Nkandla homestead.
The African National Congress’ (ANC) Zizi Kodwa said that it would reserve further comment on Thursday’s outcome “given the serious nature of the judgement delivered”.
Kodwa did‚ however‚ say that the “Constitutional Court is and remains the guardian of the Constitution of the Republic and the final arbiter on matters before it‚ hence the ANC welcomes the clarity provided by the Court on the binding nature of the powers of the public protector”.
“The ANC once again reaffirms our full confidence in the judiciary and the upholding rule of law in South Africa‚” Kodwa added.
