Two platform winners following the VS Gaming South African qualifiers for FIFA eWorld Cup are heading overseas to take a shot at the championships, set to culminate in London in August.

After a successful two days of hard football action, VS Gaming crowned the winners of the Xbox One and Playstation 4 EA SPORTS FIFA tournament in May.

After two grand finals, Shiaan Rubeer and 16-year-old Thabo Moloi were victorious on Xbox One and Playstation 4 respectively. Each player won R400,000 as the first prize on each platform.

The VS Gaming Cup, held on 05 and 06 May, saw 1,024 players compete to win the right to contest the FIFA eWorld Cup playoffs later this year.

VS Gaming was given the rights to host a FIFA eWorld Cup Qualifier in March after signing an agreement with EA Sports.

We managed to catch up with both Thabo and Shiaan before they were due to head off.

Thabo Moloi, 16, won out over 500 other Playstation 4 contestants at the VS Gaming in May, Johannesburg. @VSGamingWorld #FIFAeClubWorldCup #esports #SAesports #FIFA The event took place at Joburg...

Unfortunately Thabo was not able to travel overseas in the end due to passport and visa complications. He has however since signed with local multi-gaming organisation Goliath Gaming who are making their own inroads into FIFA.

We did however manage to catch Shiaan at the airport on his way off to the championship. While he ultimately did not make it into the next round the experience will be invaluable moving forward.

Shiaan Rugbeer, 19, battled it out to beat over 500 other qualified contestants in the @VSGamingWorld @EASPORTSFIFA qualifier in May at Monte Casino, Johannesburg. #SAesports #esports #FIFAeWorldCup

The best 32 FIFA18 Xbox and PlayStation players will battle it out for the title of FIFA eWorld Cup Champion 2018 between 2 and 4 August in London.

The FIFA eWorld Cup is virtual football’s equivalent of the FIFA World Cup. At the FIFA eWorld Cup, 32 players – all of who will have qualified for the event through the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series – will compete for the ultimate Grand Prize – the FIFA eWorld Cup title, a life-changing cash prize and a trip to the Best FIFA Football Awards.
