Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez is in London undergoing a medical at Chelsea ahead of a shock move after he was given permission to talk with the Premier League champions, according to reports in Spain on Wednesday.

The Spanish international, according to daily Marca, is all set to join Jose Mourinho’s team after a deal between Barcelona and Chelsea was struck on Tuesday night.

Chelsea have emerged as late challengers to Manchester United’s bid to secure the 27-year-old striker after holding talks with the Catalan club aimed at agreeing a fee.

According to the report, United's offer of €25 million up front and up to €5 million in extras has been trumped by Chelsea, with Manchester City understood to have never submitted a formal bid for the speedy forward.

An official announcement of the move is expected imminently.

Chelsea are also weighing up whether to submit a fourth and final bid worth £40 million to Everton for the England defender John Stones after seeing an offer of £30 million knocked back on Tuesday.
