AmaZulu sack coach Steve Barker

Days after coach Steve Barker said he and the soccer club’s management are on the “same page”‚ AmaZulu FC said they were terminating his contract. This follows the club’s “failure to meet its mandate” in the 2015/16 National First Division‚ Usuthu General Manager Lunga Sokhela said in a statement on Monday.“The Coach has been notified of the decision to terminate his contract after the failure to meet our mandate of getting automatic promotion back into the Premier Division.“We have thanked him for his contribution and hard work into the first team as well his input towards our development structures. We wish him well with his future plans‚” said Sokhela.On Wednesday last week‚ TMG Sport reported that Barker blamed the club’s disappointing campaign partly on injuries and the rule dictating the number of under-23 players in the teams.He said: “Supporters are frustrated and one understands that. They have been denied success for years. [But] management have always maintained that our relationship is strong. Everybody is on the same page.”“We just have to try finish the season as strong as possible and lay a foundation for next season.
