Twitter has reacted with shock to the news that soccer legend Mike Mangena has been arrested after law enforcement officials raided a drug production lab at a property allegedly owned by him.

Sowetan reported on Wednesday that police had conducted a three-week surveillance operation on a Randfontein property.

On Wednesday, law enforcement officials pounced on the farm and found a drug production set-up, complete with chemicals used in the manufacture of mandrax.

"There are a lot of chemicals in there and drug processing equipment," said Col Brenda Muridili of the SAPS.

Police initially took Mangena in for questioning but later confirmed that he had been arrested.

Mangena is a football legend who made his mark playing for Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows. He later became a regular on sport television shows, appearing as a soccer analyst.

People on social media expressed shock that the legendary Mangena was implicated in drug production.
