With the welcome renaming of William Nicol Dr, the changing of street and building names is again proving to be controversial, not least because of the replacement name, Winnie Mandela Drive. I stand for symbolic justice, and renaming public sites is part of restoring what has been lost to colonialism and apartheid. But is politics our only identity? What about the many other ways South Africans express their talents and commitments now and over the course of our troubled history?..
