The JSE was flat at its opening on Tuesday despite a strong lead from China.

"We're still pretty range bound" as volumes are light‚ said Andrew Sullivan‚ managing director at Haitong International Securities.

At 9.15am‚ the all share had risen by 23.10 points to 51‚211.80. The blue-chip top 40 index climbed 36.20 points.

Platinums were 1.88% higher while industrials fell 0.21%. Resources and gold added 0.87% and 0.65% respectively. Financials gained 0.22% and banks were flat.

Among individual shares on the JSE‚ Glencore was up 3.29% to R20.70.

ArcelorMittal rose 5.15% to R5.10.

Northam Platinum rallied 5.46% to R27.80. Royal Bafokeng Platinum plunged 9.41% to R25.50.

Wilson Bayly Holmes-Ovcon tumbled 8.6% to R105.01.

Reunert was up 2.09% to R69.98.

There is little in the way of data to provide markets with direction. Trade volumes are likely to remain thin for the remainder of the week.
