THERE is an alarming increase on the part of black commentators in the Sunday Times to indulge in race-hate perspectives. The latest example is the article by Vuyo Mvoko, "Homecoming: The return of a baas from abroad is too much for me" (February 19).

THERE is an alarming increase on the part of black commentators in the Sunday Times to indulge in race-hate perspectives. The latest example is the article by Vuyo Mvoko, "Homecoming: The return of a baas from abroad is too much for me" (February 19).

Mvoko accuses white South African emigrants of being "villains", that is, common criminals. This is not merely irresponsible, loose talk. It is highly inflammatory.

Most emigrants did not want to leave this country. The prime driver for most was a horrific crime experience, coupled with the realisation that the present regime lacks the will (and, increasingly, the competence) to fight crime. Ironically, violent crime is almost always at the hand of Mvoko's black comrades.

Mvoko brings no research to back up his points, yet revels in making insulting innuendo. Articles like these are toxic to race relations. They invite a mud-slinging retort. After that, the debate can only go downhill. There are no winners in games designed by malicious bigots and irresponsible idiots. - Cynic, Clovelley
