Biotica: Handmade by Me's leafy new product range

Sera Holland of Handmade by Me on her obsession with millennial pink and her latest plant-inspired products

18 June 2017 - 00:00 By Roberta Thatcher

Plants and foliage were always going to be the obvious inspiration for Sera Holland's new Handmade by Me range.
That's because, just over a year ago, she joined forces with plant specialist Windowsill, opening a new shared studio and showroom with the brand and she's been immersed in plants ever since.
"Having surrounded ourselves with the leaves, flowers and cuttings of the most beautiful plants over the past year, we didn't have to go too far to find inspiration for our new range," says Holland."While we were working on Biotica, we loved playing around with both the combination and the contrast of print and pattern, illustration and photography, and geometric and organic."
The range consists of eight new designs and includes a variety of nature-inspired decorative products including soft furnishings, wallpaper, fabric, homeware and stationery.
5 MINUTES WITH HOLLAND
A trend you follow?
Plants and millennial pink - this season's never-ending plant craze is giving me all kinds of feelings.
Favourite designer?
I have many favourites, but Tom Dixon and his never-ending array of bright and shiny things for the home are pretty high up there. They are the kinds of products you design a room around, and not the other way around.
An Instagram account we should all be following?
@instasloths. There's nothing like a cute baby sloth hugging another baby sloth to brighten up any kind of day. Turn on the sound for extra heart melting.
A movie you could watch over and over?
Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums. Every time I watch it I see something that I hadn't noticed before.Favourite decor piece?
At the moment, Le Refuge day bed by Marc Ange. It combines my two favourite things - plants and millennial pink, and it makes me think of summer and ice cream.
A South African artist we should all know about?
Mia Chaplin, for her luscious use of oils.
What are you listening to right now?
I listen to music a lot so I have a very large playlist to which I am continually adding new music. Some current favourites are Moriarty, Wild Nothing, Alela Diane and Dark Dark Dark...
