Elephants are among the star attractions of the Kruger National Park, but a sighting can come with risks.

A couple finds this out the hard way while visiting the park. They're watching an elephant chewing on a tree's leaves when without warning, the animal suddenly turns around and charges their car.

The driver quickly puts his car in reverse and narrowly escapes the elephant as it chases them down the road.

Satisfied that it's made its point, the animal stops charging and turns back towards the bush.

"We both sat in silence as the elephant moved off, knowing how lucky we were to survive this," the man who filmed the video told the Kruger National Park YouTube page
