Comedian Trevor Gumbi has hit out at a Drum magazine report that he was too drunk to perform at an event over the weekend, calling the rumours "stupid" and challenging anyone who claims he was, to take him for a blood test.

Speaking to TMG Entertainment on Wednesday, Trevor shot down rumours that he had disappeared from a scheduled event in Mthatha, Eastern Cape over the weekend, only to return to the stage several hours later drunk and unable to continue his presenting duties.

  •

"I wasn't drunk and whoever said I was, better take me for a blood test because it's nonsense. It's stupid and I would love to find out who said that about me," Trevor said.

The comedian, who gave up a cocaine drug addiction several years ago, admitted that he does enjoy the occasional drink, but was not drunk in this particular case.

  •

"If I had done anything wrong, I would have owned up to it. I'm a big boy now," he said. "But the truth is I didn't anything wrong and the promoters even called me to thank me for doing an amazing job. I have no idea where this all comes from.''

He said that he is aware of the rumours questioning his sobriety, but is unfazed by them.

  • Bonang and Lerato Kganyago squash 'trash' feud rumoursIt's not the first time they have been called out for apparently feuding. But Bonang Matheba and Lerato Kganyago are refusing to accept the rumours, calling Drum magazine out for being 'trash.'

"To be honest, I'm not really concerned. The rumours don't change anything. Of course, the public perception of me is important, but when it comes to rumours I couldn't be bothered," he said.
