Fans of the show were shocked to learn last month that the SABC had decided to cancel the popular drama series and had given the production company 30 days notice.

The SABC refused to comment on the matter, but told TshisaLIVE last week that it had called a meeting with the production house to discuss a way forward.

However, their meeting was unsuccessful and the production house is now seeking the help of the courts and ICASA to have the SABC's decision overturned.

"Rous House Productions has no other choice but to approach the courts with an application for an urgent interdict to stop the SABC from cancelling High Rollers," the production house said in a statement this week.

The application was served on Wednesday and a court date is set for next week

The company also lambasted the SABC for the timing of the decision, saying that the broadcaster had acted "in bad faith" and contradicted its own policy on local content.

"Not only is this the worst possible time of the year for this to happen, but is also in contradiction to SABC’s decision to increase local content to 80% on SABC 3. RHP feels that the SABC’s decision to cancel High Rollers within just 30 business days is in bad faith," the production company added.

The show's executive producer Luke Rous added that hundreds of people had been affected by the SABC's "irresponsible and unjust" decision.

Attempts to reach the SABC for comment were unsuccessful
