Week after week viewers of Ufelani find themselves at a loss for words after hearing how an innocent woman has died at the hands of an abusive man, but when they heard the gruesome story of how John murdered Mpho, they were left shook.

John Baloyi stabbed and beat Mpho Ndobe to death in October 2016. He left her body β€œto rot” in their shack in Mamelodi East and was sentenced to 22 years in prison by the Gauteng High Court.

Viewers listened to the family talk about how hard it was for them to see Mpho in that relationship and how they fought, particularly the sister, to try and get her out alive. All viewers could do was encourage each other to leave abusive relationships.

While shows like these are important to a country like SA, where abuse is so rampant, they are also a very harsh reminder of a world where a woman's life often means nothing.
