When previously recalling the night of Meyiwa's murder in an exclusive interview with eNCA, Zandie said she tried to keep him alive and could feel him slipping away while he was being rushing to hospital.
“I was the one sitting with Senzo in the back [of the car], putting pressure on the wound, leading to the hospital. Even on our way to the hospital I could feel him getting cold from his feet ... I was busy talking to him all the way, trying to keep him alive, but unfortunately ...” she said.
When asked if there was anything she wishes she could’ve done differently that night, Zandie said though she thinks she could’ve tried to fight the intruders, she understands she was overcome by the incident.
“When something happens of that magnitude you forget everything. I even forgot the knife drawer, maybe I could’ve taken a knife and stabbed someone ... maybe if there was one [of the men] left behind ... one would have said something, it would’ve been better. Things just go through your mind that I would’ve wanted to do so much.”

Zandie Khumalo on 'cancel' culture: 'Only God has a say over my life'

Zandie Gumede (née Khumalo) has responded to calls that she and her sister, singer Kelly Khumalo, should be “cancelled”.
She was among five people in the Vosloorus house during an alleged house robbery when soccer star Senzo Meyiwa was fatally wounded in 2014.
Amid the Meyiwa trial, the two singers' names have shot up social media timelines.
On Monday, the court heard Khumalo’s advocate Magdalene Moonsamy had written to the court requesting to be part of proceedings as a watching brief and asking for access to case dockets, court transcripts and related documents. However, the Pretoria high court denied the request.
Trolls speculating about their involvement in Meyiwa's death called for them to be ostracised as they could be “hiding something”.
Zandie slammed false reports, saying despite the social media narratives only God could determine her fate.
“Mina angisiye owomuntu wala emhlabeni ngingoka Jehova and it’s him and him alone who have a say over my life, it’s him and him alone who preside over my fate,” she posted.
